They are laid onto the floor with a gap purposely left on the sides. Yep, it’s a “floating floor,” but what exactly does that mean? Well, unlike a hardwood floor that is nailed together and nailed into a subfloor, LVP floors are neither nailed nor glued. By installing this floor ourselves, we are saving about $3000 – that’s equal to the flooring cost! It floats!

Luxury vinyl plank flooring combines most of the great looks of wood with the resilience of linoleum.īut more than that, an LVP floor is something we can install ourselves, and with prices spiraling out of control, we need to save money anywhere and everywhere we can.

We wanted something a little more resilient to the elements, even though we don’t anticipate any water intruding into our new home. But our biggest worry about hardwood here in Florida is the humidity and the potential for flooding. There’s no doubt wood floors look great, and you’ll never see a repeating pattern no matter how hard you look. In our Georgia home, we installed hardwood after ripping out the old carpet, so why not here? Well, we thought about it. Install the hardwood per manufactures written instructions, using their recommended fastening materials.There are so many ways to go when making the switch from carpet to something harder.You can tape the seams but it is not necessary. Install underlayment in opposite direction to the flooring material.Unroll the underlayment and ensure vapor side is up and fibers are to the subfloor.Be sure not to slide flooring into a position which could potentially displace adhesive.Roll the finished floor with a 100 lb flooring roller.Follow flooring manufacturer recommendations for installing transitions in large-span applications and doorways.Maintain a minimum expansion gap of ¼” around the perimeter of the room.Make sure the staggered end joints fall at least 2” away from the underlayment seams.Once the adhesive has flashed (dried to a tacky touch) you can begin flooring installation according to the manufacturer’s recommendations.Mark starting lines on Underlayment for placement of finished flooring product.Roll the adhered QuietWalk Luxury Vinyl Underlayment with a 100 lb flooring roller.Butt seams together and apply 2” wide clear packaging tape centered over the seam.Once the adhesive has flashed (dried to a tacky touch) place the trimmed-to-fit underlayment into the adhesive.Apply a recommended pressure-sensitive adhesive using the flooring manufacturer recommended trowel.Move the trimmed-to-fit underlayment to the side to apply the adhesive.Trim to fit the QuietWalk Luxury Vinyl Underlayment into the target areas.Remove the tape strip cover portion of the lip and tape system and discard.Remove the lip portion of the lip and tape system with a utility knife and discard.Make sure that underlayment seams run perpendicular (at a right angle) to the long dimension of the planks.Unroll the first drop of QuietWalk Luxury Vinyl Underlayment and flip it over so the film side is up (felt side down).

  • Be sure the subfloor is clean and free of dust and debris.
  • Double Glue Down installations are approved with flooring that is a minimum thickness of 4mm.
  • Install the floor covering product according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • For seams that do not have the lip and tape feature, use a good quality single-faced tape to seal the seams.
  • Butt seams together and seals using the factory attached lip and tape system.
  • Trim the perimeter edges of the QuietWalk Luxury Vinyl Underlayment 1/4” from the wall.
  • Underlayment must be positioned with a minimum 4” separation between seams of underlayment and seams of finished flooring products.
  • Make sure that underlayment seams run perpendicular (at a right angle) to the long dimension of the planks.
  • Unroll the QuietWalk Luxury Vinyl Underlayment and flip it over so the film side is up (felt side down).
  • Be sure the subfloor is clean, smooth, and free of dust and debris.

    Installation Methods Floating Floor Installation

  • Fill any cracks on concrete or panel joints wider than 1/8″ using a recommended patch/leveling product.
  • Sand any rough surfaces and/or uneven jobs.
  • All subfloors must be flat, clean, smooth and dry.
  • Commercial double glue applications (4mm or thicker flooring).
  • Floating Vinyl, Laminate and Engineered Wood Floors.
  • Residential applications on all grade levels.
  • QuietWalk Luxury Vinyl Underlayment be used over any subfloor approved by the finished floor covering manufacturer.
  • All areas must be checked prior to installation. All wood and concrete subfloors must be flat within 1/8″ over a 6′ span, or 3/16″ over a 10′ span.
